Valheim Patch 1.0.21: Bug Fixes, Balance Tweaks and Platform Updates

Patch 1.0.21 brings a wide-ranging set of fixes and adjustments aimed at smoothing out the overall Valheim experience. Due to internal platform restrictions, the rollout will take a few days to reach all platforms, but crossplay remains fully functional throughout.

Bug Fixes

Several long-standing issues have been addressed:

  • Players will no longer be launched at high velocity when jumping on certain enemies.
  • Weather effects like snow storms (Deep North/Mountains) and ash storms (Ashlands) no longer leak into player housing.
  • Tree stumps in the Deep North no longer sway unnaturally in the wind.
  • The vendor GUI now opens correctly after watching an in-session cinematic.
  • Name fields for worlds and characters now reject invalid characters such as "<" or "|".
  • Equipping two trinkets simultaneously via item stands is no longer possible.
  • Items can no longer be accidentally dropped outside the inventory on mouse release.
  • Kall Fimbulbringer's drops no longer fall through the floor.
  • The "No Skill Drain" effect no longer reapplies incorrectly after its timer expires.
  • Crafting credit for the Frost Foundry now correctly attributes to the player, even when the structure is network-owned by someone else (achievement tracking still follows the network owner, with a full fix planned for a future network-incompatible update).
  • Visual seams in ocean rendering have been corrected.
  • Multiple rare multiplayer crashes have been resolved.
  • A bug causing the credits screen to overlap the main menu after skipping it has been fixed.
  • Several achievements—including Mighty Halls, Comfort is King, The Homesteader, The Architect, and The Survivor—were incorrectly tied to difficulty settings; this has been corrected.
  • Gamepad users can now properly filter Boss and Death markers.

Gameplay and Balance Tweaks

  • Baked Poteitr, Kale Chips, and Oven Pancake are now crafted at the Food Preparation table instead of the Cauldron, with corrected tooltips for their uncooked versions.
  • Wolf spirits can no longer reproduce.
  • The Deep North mage helmet no longer requires moose trophies to upgrade.
  • Gammeltroll Punch attacks can no longer destroy other petrified gammeltrolls.
  • The Troll Trophy has been added as a requirement for The Trophy Collector achievement.
  • Some previously indestructible props and snow walls in certain locations (including Deep North villages) are now destructible.
  • The vanguard hood can now be placed on item stands.
  • Deep North trees now drop Timberwood cones, which can be planted in more hospitable biomes to grow large trees yielding additional Timberwood. Drop rates have been rebalanced to favor Timberwood over pinecones.
  • Kall Fimbulbringer's screen shake has been reduced on certain attacks, and the Yagluth Aspect's Fire Nova ground damage-over-time has been halved.
  • The Nord Greatsword and its variants no longer lose damage when hitting multiple enemies in a single swing.
  • Fire-based decoration sound effects (iron torch, sconce, braziers) have had their volume reduced.
  • Frozen Skeletons and Greydwarves now remain visible longer before disappearing due to distance (LOD).
  • Moose hitboxes have been refined to better match their models, and their attack range has been slightly reduced.

Platform-Specific Fixes

Steam: Resolved a save-caching issue where file status could desync if a world was modified outside the game.

Xbox: A retroactive cleanup now removes invalid characters from character and world file names (e.g., "i<3"), fixing a critical bug that caused the main menu UI to vanish when starting a game. The gamepad association prompt no longer appears on startup.

PlayStation: Added an informational popup when attempting to join a crossplay server while the "PS5 only" toggle is enabled.

Switch 2: Fixed an issue preventing the Achievement details panel from being scrolled via touch controls.
