Developers at FakeFish and Undertow Games have set a release date for Barotrauma's upcoming expansion. The Home & Harbor DLC will launch on December 2, preceded by a free Companion Update arriving one week earlier, on November 26.
Player-Owned Outposts
The headline addition in Home & Harbor is a new outpost ownership system. For the first time, players will be able to:
- Acquire their own outpost
- Manage its operations and resources
- Defend it against threats
- Benefit directly from owning a base of operations in Europa's waters
This marks a structural shift for the game, moving beyond the traditional submarine-only loop and giving crews a persistent foothold in the world.
The Descendants Faction
Alongside the outpost system, Home & Harbor introduces the Descendants, a new faction of highly advanced, idealistic survivors. The Descendants are tied to a fresh narrative thread that sheds light on some of Europa's long-standing mysteries.
Players will need to work with this faction to counter an emerging threat, tying the new story content directly into the expanded gameplay systems.
Scope of the Expansion
According to the developers, combining the outpost mechanics with the Descendants storyline and their associated content results in what they describe as a "moon-sized chunk" of new material for Barotrauma.
